An alternative deflashing method, whereby the simultaneous chemical dissolving action of the stripping chemical and the removal of hard to access crevice area mold flash or bleed by electrolytic action, is the method of electrolytic deflashing. The leadframes are made the cathode, while the anode is either a stainless steel sheet or platium. The stripping chemical complex the mold flash, and simultaneously the hydrogen gas bubbles generated at the interface between the mold flash and the underlying metal surface during the electrolysis have a percolating effect on the leadframe. The advantage is that it can save a number of preclean process steps, hence making the plating baseline more streamlined and cost effective.
